Hello!
I am a PR and communications professional working in the telecoms sector in Oman, where I've been living since 2008. Before that I worked in Paris and London. Originally from the UK, I moved to Oman after falling in love with the place during a holiday, and it now feels like 'home' - my aim is to stay here indefinitely.
I am passionate about many things, including cats, and animal welfare and have rescued not only my own cats, but also helped lots of strays in Oman - I'm an avid campaigner for TNR to be legislatively implemented here.
I'm also on social media rather a lot, but mainly as 'Moet' (my blind cat - more about her in other pages). I have also helped others to set up and manage social media sites.
Whilst in Oman I have also done a little freelance writing for local publications and enjoy copywriting in my spare time. I have written several blog posts for a cat website called 'The Daily Mews' and also a prize-winning short story for an international book called 'Completely Cats'. I've also produced an illustrated book of funny cat quips, which is for sale online, along with a short story book titled 'The Adventure of Moet the Blind Cat' available on Amazon.
I gained a PPL (Private Pilot's Licence), which I got in the UK in 2004 from Shoreham, West Sussex. I can't do any flying out here in Oman as there is no GA, but hopefully there will be one day, as it will be a spectacular place to fly.
You may have noticed from my website banner that I'm interested in astronomy. I had a fascination with space from a very young age and was given my first telescope in 1988. I would spend hours looking through it on cold nights in the UK. Sadly I had to leave my telescope behind in the UK, but I hope to acquire one here in Oman soon. The night sky from the desert is a magical sight.
[My website banner is a picture of the Pleiades, or 'Seven Sisters'].
I have a PhD in acoustics and a BSc (Hons) from Loughborough University in the UK. That seems like a lifetime ago now and is totally unrelated to my current work. Still, they are useful things to have, unlike my CTA (Chartered Tax Adviser exams). ;-) If you're interested, you can view my PhD thesis here:
